Hello Parents and Students!
Welcome to Week 4 of the school year! 6th Grade The students are working on familiarizing themselves with the finger position, bow hold, and posture. They are working on the D Major Scale, and we are starting to learn how to read music. It will take some time, so they need to practice as much as possible. 7th Grade The students are working on their two pieces Russian Music Box and Sahara Crossing. Within the next month or two, I will start getting music together for the winter concert. 8th Grade The students are preparing their pieces for the October 28th concert. This concert will be a joint concert with The GLOBE Academy and Lakeside HS, playing Legends of Glory and The Hanging Tree. A permission slip for this trip/concert will be sent out in September. I still need chaperones for this trip! Reminders 1. There are still students without instruments! If you do not have an instrument, please bring it to class as soon as possible! I have been talking to certain students about each situation, so please try to get this done as soon as possible. If this continues, it will affect their participation grade in class. 2. FORMS AND ORCHESTRA DUES are DUE ON FRIDAY AUGUST 30th!! I am still missing a lot of forms and dues, mainly from 7th and 8th graders! Without this money, I cannot purchase music for the students to play, as well as purchase orchestra T-shirts, case tags, etc. for everyone! 3. If you have not already, please sign up for REMIND! Again, if you have any other questions, please let me know! Thank you!

Dear Parents,
The 8th graders are performing with Lakeside HS on October 28 for their Rising Stars Concert. Because they have to be there by 3:00pm for rehearsal, we need to take 2 buses. The concert is around 6:00pm. More details will be given out at a later time. I need 4 chaperones or more in total! If anyone is available that day, please email me. Thank you, Ms. Tang [email protected] Hello Students and Parents!
Happy Week 3! I can't believe it's been almost a month since school started! I hope you all are settling in to the new school year. I know I am! Here are a few announcements! 6th Grade - 8/21 & 8/22: Instrument Set-Up Check. This is going in as their first quiz grade. I am evaluating whether they can properly set up their instruments and posture and play their open strings with their bow. 7th Grade - 8/23: G Major Scale and Arpeggio Playing Quiz (1 octave). This is done in class, and should be very short. The students are graded on a rubric. If it is not done on Friday, we will continue it on Monday. 8th Grade - 8/23: E Natural Minor Scale and Arpeggio Playing Quiz (1 octave). This is done in class, and should be very short. The students are graded on a rubric. If it is not done on Friday, we will continue it on Monday. Remind App I made all the students try to sign up for Remind during class on Friday. If you (parent and student) have not done so, please do so ASAP! I will be sending out reminders soon! Here are the codes again: 6th Grade @2h8aaa 7th Grade @gcf9fde 8th Grade @ca4feh Forms and Dues Remember, Forms and Dues are due on Friday August 30th! There are copies located on this website! Some of you have already discussed with me if you cannot make that deadline, but if you haven't please email me as soon as possible! I do not have change to give back to the students, so it needs to be exact cash or check! The dues cover an orchestra T-shirt, instrument case tag, music for performances, and other necessities for the the classroom or fees for LGPE or trip buses. $70 (mainly for 6h graders-- if you need a polo) $50 (for 7th and 8th graders-- if you already have a polo) The orchestra polo is mandatory for concert performances! Instruments I do not have anymore violins or violas left for the students to check out. If you still need an instrument, here are stores in the area that rent or sell them: Music & Arts Atlanta Violins Ronald Sachs Violin Ken Stanton Music PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT purchase an instrument from Amazon!!! You can purchase accessories, but DO NOT purchase an instrument. These types are hard to tune and maintain, even though they are cheap in price. If you have forgotten to bring your instrument to school, I do not have anymore violins or violas to borrow in class. DO NOT MAKE THIS A HABIT!! Music I have already started passing out music for the 7th and 8th graders. Please get a binder for their music as soon as possible. Please label the binder with the following: - First and Last Name - Grade - My name (Ms. Tang) Morning Practice has already started. It is available from 7:30-8:25am everyday, unless noted otherwise. It is not mandatory, but if you need help to improve, that time is a great resource to get help from Ms. Tang or older classmates. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to email me! - Ms. Tang Dear Parents and Students,
Happy 2nd week of school! I hope the first week was smooth and eventful! I have fixed my Remind App and updated the Remind Codes. Please sign up as soon as possible, and please disregard the old Remind Codes. Here they are: 6th Grade @2h8aaa 7th Grade @gcf9fde 8th Grade @ca4feh We are starting to play in class, but it is difficult to focus and start on playing our instruments when we have issues with instruments and forms. From now on, please come to me in the orchestra room before the start of school (7:30am-8:25am) to hand me any forms/documents/dues/questions, etc. If you have an Instrument Agreement Form to check-out an instrument, please have it signed by both parent and student and returned to me in order to receive an instrument. We are running low in school instruments, so first come, first serve. We are also out of school violas for students to check-out. See below for stores that will assist you with instrument rentals. Atlanta Violins Ronald Sachs Violins Ken Stanton Music Music and Arts These stores can also assist you in getting the following items for class: Instrument Shoulder rest (violins and violas- we do not have any at school for everyone to have one) Rock Stop (Cellos and basses- only for concerts) Essential Elements for Strings 2000 Book 1 (6th graders only) Make sure your cases are labeled with the student name and grade. Morning Practices are offered every morning from 7:30-8:25am. If you are new to orchestra, this is a great opportunity to practice or review notes and playing technique. All-State Auditions are offered to 7th and 8th grade students. The forms have already been distributed in class. This is a serious audition that requires dedication, practice, and time. Please have the form and $25 due turned in to Ms. Tang by September 6! If you need a copy of the music, please see Ms. Tang, or you have the option to buy the book. There is also a copy of the form listed under the “Forms and Documents” tab on the website. 6th Grade

8th Grade
Please do not forget your instrument at home. We are running on short supply of extra instruments to borrow for the day. If this becomes a habit, participation points will be taken off the weekly grade. Lastly, please turn in forms and dues as soon as you can (by August 30th)! Thank you everyone for your flexibility and patience! Best, Ms. Tang Dear Parents and Students,
Welcome to the Henderson Middle School Orchestra website! I will try to update it as frequently as possible. The first day of school was a success, and I appreciate your children's attentiveness and flexibility. We discussed the syllabus, event dates, expectations and procedures, as well as demonstrated some of the instruments for the 6th graders. I ran out of time in certain classes, so we will cover the rest this week. On the other hand, I will also be assigning instruments to the students for check-out this week. We have a limited number of school instruments, so please keep that in mind throughout the school year. Students who are checking out instruments will be bringing home an Instrument Contract Agreement that both student and parent will sign. Please look over that carefully! If you are able to rent an instrument from other stores, here are some available stores in the area: Ken Stanton, Music & Arts, Ronald Sachs Violin, Atlanta Violins Lastly, I know that some of you have already joined Remind. Sometime in the middle of the day, I had an issue with Remind, so please do not sign up for Remind just yet, until I can sort out this issue! I will post new Remind Codes for both students and parents in class and on this website. I will keep you updated! If you have your instruments, please start bringing them in to class. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you, Ms. Tang [email protected] |
