Honor Orchestra (7th and 8th Grades)
- I have sent out a Remind message that the form and $25 was due on Friday 9/27, since I will not be there on Monday 9/30 (original due date). - I will still take the forms and $ on Tuesday, but that will be the LAST DAY! - I will hand out the music once I receive it from the Honor Orchestra coordinator, so thank you for your patience. All-State Orchestra Auditions - The schedule for All-State Orchestra auditions will be given out to all DeKalb County orchestra teachers within the next week or two, so thank you for your patience. - Please continue to practice your scales and etude pieces. There will be an opportunity in class to perform the selections in front of your peers the closer we get to the audition date. Purchases - I have ordered the polo shirts for those that paid their dues, so those will arrive around mid-October. - I have also purchased instrument case tags for those who paid their dues as well. Once you receive them, please attach them to your instruments, and label them! - The holiday music has been ordered for the December concert! I will distribute them once I receive them, and we will start rehearsing them in class. - The new Wenger music library will arrive the week of 10/21 to organize our music selections.

Hope you all had a great weekend! Here are the happenings for Week 9 (Week of 9/30): Monday (9/30) - I will be at Henderson MS for teacher training all day, so I will not be teaching on Monday. The students will be distributed to other connection classes. - No Instruments! - No Morning Practice! 8th Grade - We have started working on The Legend of Duffy's Cut, an Irish inspired piece that tells a story of Irish railroad workers. This will be a piece for the students' LGPE (Large Group Performance Evaluation), so it is better to get started on it earlier. Once I have the time to make copies, I will give the students their own copies. - We are continuing working on The Hanging Tree and Legends of Glory for the October 28th concert! Thank you to all the parents that volunteered to chaperone! - ** Please turn in your permission forms, if you have not done so!** 7th Grade - We sightread The Star of County Down, which is an Irish inspired piece with a variety of new musical terms and techniques. The students will substitute this for the previous Russian Music Box in their LGPE (Large Group Performance Evaluation) repertoire. We will continue with Russian Music Box as a review of their technique. 6th Grade - We are working in the Essential Elements 2000 book 1: eighth notes, quarter notes, time signatures, key signatures, up bows, down bows, repeats, bow lifts, etc. - We will continue reviewing the techniques and motions in order to play together as an ensemble. - ** I have graded the re-do quiz!** Many students did really well. 8th Grade - The playing quiz grades are on Infinite Campus! - Please turn in the Oct. 28 Concert permission forms ASAP (DUE 10/01) - We will be reviewing 2-octave scales and arpeggios this week, and continuing the rehearsal of Legends of Glory and Hanging Tree. 7th Grade - Playing Quiz grades are in Infinite Campus! - We will be reviewing/introducing 2-octave scales and arpeggios. - Continue rehearsal on Sahara Crossing and Russian Music Box. 6th Grade - Vocab. quizzes will be handed out this Monday to review. Grades are in Infinite Campus! - Re-Do on the quiz is scheduled for Thursday 9/26 in class! - Continue review of eighth notes and the D and G Major Scales and Arpeggios; clapping and counting aloud rhythms, and shadow bowing in the Essential Elements book. Here are just a few reminders for 7th and 8th grade:
8th Grade Make sure you get your permission forms signed and turned in by October 1st! - Make sure your parents know to pick you up at 7:30pm that day at Lakeside HS. - If you need me to contact your other teachers to excuse you from your 6th and 7th period classes, please write down their names and subjects on the permission form. 7th and 8th Grade For those of you who have the Honor Orchestra forms, please complete it and turn in the second page by September 30th with the $25 fee.
